What We Learned from Week 1

By Totals 4 U

Hello, Sports Fans! Coming off a fine 12-3 effort on your 2016 NFL Preseason Week 1 Totals, we’re taking a quick look today at how the stats for the openers shook out…

On the Totals Side, a combined 597 points were scored last week in 16 games for an average of 37.3 points per game. Compared to an average closing line of 36.4, a small “Over” advantage was yielded of 0.9 points per game and the results mirrored this modest edge. For the week 8 games finished over, 7 games under, with 1 push.

Over on the Covers Side, we saw much more dramatic trends that flipped after the initial set of Thursday games.

On Thursday, we saw 5 of 6 home teams cover and 4 of 6 favorite teams cash the ticket. Ride the home favs, yes? Not so much. In fact, jumping on that trend would have been very expensive. Over the remaining 10 games we saw 8 of 10 road teams cover the number while an amazing 9 of 10 underdogs got the money. In the end, home teams finished 7-9 against the line while the favorites only managed 5-11.

So what’s the trend, what’s the lesson?

After a couple decades of this pursuit we can tell you the magic answer is…don’t give much weight to trends and don’t look for many lessons! Sorry, folks, but it’s the truth. Every game must be approached individually, in solely the circumstances in play right now. Never let the last result have an exaggerated effect on the next, simply because it was the most recent, and there’s just no replacement for doing the work.

Just like life!

NFL Divisional Sunday!!

By Totals 4 U

Hey Sports Fans (Free NFL Winner at the bottom of this article)!

Much of the coast to coast travel is in the books for the National Football League as most teams now turn their sights on Divisional Rivals for the home stretch to playoff invitations. On the heels of Thursday night’s AFC West battle (congrats to all on Cards/Rams under), Sunday features no less than 10 huge divisional showdowns. Let’s take a look…

Oakland (2-11) @ Kansas City (7-6): Maybe not a blockbuster but simply critical for the Chiefs. As of now they are on the outside looking in and probably need to run the table to make the post.

Houston (7-6) @ Indianapolis (9-4): Another of the 5 AFC teams sitting at 7-6 and the Texans have to pull the upset on the road against the South leader.

Cincinnati (8-4-1) @ Cleveland (7-6): Of the 7-6ers, the Browns are the longest shots for a Wildcard due to tie-breakers but just a game and a half separate first and worst in the north.

Miami (7-6) @ New England (10-3): A loss for the Dolphins ends their season but seems a tall order without a few forced of turnovers are the Pats are 6-0 at Gillette Stadium in 2014.

Tampa Bay (2-11) @ Carolina (4-8-1): Their seasons may be over but not their humiliation. 10-year vet Derek Anderson goes for the Cats and with 5 squads at 2-11, do the Bucs want to win?

Washington (3-10) @ New York (4-9): A riot may break out at MetLife stadium for all the frustration shared by these two groups of fans. You couldn’t pay met to get anywhere near it.

Minnesota (6-7) @ Detroit (9-4): The Vikings are officially eliminated but a very important game for the Lions. 1 game behind in the North to the Packers, who have the Bills and Bucs before the the DET/GB showdown on the 28th at Lambeau.

Denver (10-3) @ San Diego (8-5): The Bolts are sitting 6th and final in the current playoff standings and have a shot here against the Broncs who have posted all 3 of their losses on the highway.

San Francisco (7-6) @ Seattle (9-4): Get out the Ben Gay as this one is going to leave a few lumps. Chasing down the Cards in the West has proven surprisingly tough and even if the Niners run the table, they may miss the post.

Dallas (9-4) @ Philadelphia (9-4): Here’s why it will be tough. 4 NFC teams at 9-4 stand in the way with the Eagles currently in as divisional leader and the cowboys out behind the Seahawks and Lions for the Wildcard. Should be a show under the NBC lights.

Damn fine Week-15 lineup and plenty to be settled in the playoff hunt. For now, just click here to get TODAY’S FREE PICK

What a Football Week!!

By Totals 4 U

Hello, sports fans!

A really superior football week kicks off tonight and there are some huge match ups that you need to keep your eye on.

It all begins tonight with a legendary AFC North showdown to launch Week 2 from the NFL in which the Ravens of Baltimore host arch-rival Steelers of Pittsburgh under the national broadcast lights of CBS, kick time 8:25 EST, along with a pair from the campuses – including an important Conference USA West showdown between Louisiana Tech and North Texas.

Friday night we get a primetime ESPN look at Top-10 Baylor as they unleash the Bear Beast on home-hopeful Buffalo.

Saturday, gets real interesting with some great situations! East Carolina @ Virginia Tech on ESPN at 12:00 EST could provide a surprise, while Georgia @ South Carolina on CBS at 3:30 EST is a full-blown SEC showdown.

Under the lights, the Roadrunners of Texas-San Antonio could be dangerous for Oklahoma State as could the Wolfpack for Nevada for Arizona while Tennessee @ Oklahoma on ABC at 8:00 EST and UCLA @ Texas on FOX at 8:00 EST take the main stages!

Sunday gets even better. Cam Newton returns to defend BOA Stadium against the equally 1-0 Lions, Miami and Buffalo each come in with a win to resume their AFC North blood feud at a pick ’em line, while the reeling Patriots need to play 60 minutes this week at the Vikings.

On the afternoon slate, the Bradford-less Rams need to show some life against the Buccaneers or they may done for the season while the Packers need a victory against the Jets and may have to do it without RB Eddie Lacy.

Under the Sunday night lights, San Francisco at home is favored by a touch over the Bears who may be poised to pull off the bounce-back upset and to cap the week ESPN’s Monday Night Football broadcast should be an absolute beauty with the capable Colts (-3) hosting the high-flying Eagles.

As for your Totals 4 You Team, we are already in mid-season form posting a 12-6 mark (3-1 Big Plays) in the NCAA last week paired with a 7-3-1 tally (3-0-1 Big Plays) from the NFL!

Week 3 Preseason Totals!!

By Totals 4 U

Hello, Sports Fans!

TD and your Totals Experts back and ready for your Best Football Season Ever and in our first article of this record-breaking campaign we take a look at critical Week 3 NFL Preseason Totals…

Your Week 3 action opens Thursday night with Steelers @ Eagles, kickoff at 7:30 EST, and the conventional wisdom has long been that this is the rotation where pro coaches let it all hang out offensively.

Certainly starting offensive players generally post their most snaps this exhibition week – but so will the defensive stars while kicking and punting competitions are often yet in rotation mode – so let’s a look back to last season for guidance.

Week 3 of your 2013 Preseason featured 9 Overs and 7 Unders (based on closing lines), supporting the conventional thought. Inside those numbers, the average closing total line was 42.1 point per game – eclipsed by the final score average of 44.2, bearing out the 56.3% Over mark.

So the Overs this week, right?

Maybe, but tread lightly until we look at this season’s Week 3 numbers. As of this posting the average NFL Total stands at a whopping 44.4 points per game. Read that again. The average PRESEASON FOOTBALL TOTAL this week is 44.4 points per game!

Remember the days when the average REGULAR SEASON TOTAL was 37 1/2? This isn’t you father’s game to be sure and the Sports Books are nothing if not responsive so pick your situations wisely and remember contrarian players make money in The Run.

In our case, we will cash both Over and Under moves this week with 4 or 5 simply superior situations positively perfectly positioned to capitalize on poor numbers. Can’t wait ’till kickoff!

By Totals 4 U

Your AFC Champion Denver Broncos and your NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks have bested the field and are set to do battle on February 2nd from East Rutherford where MetLife Stadium will host it’s first excitement this season!

Somewhere in between the endless (FOX is doing 5 ½ hours before kickoff) and often mindless (imagine some sideline hottie trying to talk gameplan with Tom Landry before kickoff) pre-game, the increasingly disappointing “best” commercials of the year (Apple’s “1984” still ranks as our favorite), the Pepsi Halftime Show (a casino is actually offering a prop bet on whether the Chili Peppers go shirtless in the decidedly un-Californiacated weather), and the MVP’s declaration of imminent meeting with The Magic Mouse (still the Happiest Place on Earth for us) there is going to be one hell of a football game!

Sometime nearing 11 local time, the Lombardi Trophy is going to change hands but long before that you can get into the action with your Free Super Bowl XLVIII Prop Odds.
