Hey, Sports Fans!
We are right in the heart of conference basketball season and we have been – completely immodestly – killing the books (another win last night with Cuse/Heels over by 37 1/2) from the campuses! True, many players overlook the NCAA basketball Totals in favor of the sides but, the pros will tell you, the larger edges are found on the Over/Under side. Tonight, let’s look at Texas A&M @ Auburn…
Texas A&M (13-5, 4-2 SEC, RPI 32): The Aggies are riding a 4 game win streak in SEC play with Coach Bill Kennedy masterfully rotating a lineup as deep as they come. 4 starters averaging 8 points and 4 boards or better per game plus another 6 players racking between 3-6 points per contest and ripping nearly 14 boards per trip from the bench.
No less than 10 Aggies have a double-digit game under their belt this season with much thanks to the SEC’s returning and current assist leader, 6’5″ G Alex Caruso (9.2p, 4.5r, 5.3a), while 6’7″ Danuel House provides the explosiveness and 3-balls and 6’9″ Kourtney Roberson (7.9p, 5.3r) is automatic, recording 11 games this season with 1 missed field goal or less!
Auburn (10-9, 2-4 SEC, RPI 147): The Tigers couldn’t provide a better contrast as Coach Bruce Pearl has been in the process of completely re-working this squad according to his extremely successful (472-154 in 20 seasons) game plan.
Last season’s 30-game starting point guard, Tahj-Shamsid-Deen now guards the bench while Pearly builds around the trio of the SEC’s top returning scorer, 6’4″ G KT Harrell (17.4p), the SEC’s top board man, 6’7″ 278 F Cinmeon Bowers (13.5p, 11.4r), and college basketball’s top returning scorer in 6’1″ G Antoine Mason who averaged 25.6 points per game last year with the Purple of Niagara.
A team on it’s way to competing in a major conference but the highway numbers are still simply appalling. 9-2 at home with 76.8 points per game while allowing 68.6. 0-6 on the road scoring 54.4 per game while allowing 67.3. READ THOSE NUMBERS AGAIN! Plenty of home-cooking at this level but shooting .446 at Auburn Arena versus .340 away is…is…well, make up your own adjective.
